In my experience, viewers get upset when they see something simple and claim, “Well, I could do that.” But sometimes that’s not the point of art. For instance, Dan Kenneally has been creating these simplistic paintings based on every day American foods, but all I can think when I see one is, “Yes, that is peanut butter and jelly!” The spot-on use of color evokes memories for me of biting into a delicious hamburger or enjoying a cream cheese/lox bagel the morning after a night out of drinking. Art that resonates so directly and goes right to my stomach is the quickest way to my heart!
